“It’s money and adventure and fame! It’s the thrill of a lifetime – and a long sea voyage that starts at six o’clock tomorrow morning!”. That’s how Carl Denham, rogue filmmaker, pitches to an unsuspecting Ann Darrow his scheme to find and film the mysterious beast called “Kong”. Denham was more right than he knew, and his description could easily apply to 1933 film King Kong itself. A blockbuster of it’s time (10 shows daily!), the film is widely regarded as having saved movie studio RKO from bankruptcy.
Iconfactory worker Dave Brasgalla caught a showing of the film on Swedish television one day last summer, after having not viewed it since childhood. Since that day, Dave has been working diligently on a lusciously-rendered set of Kong icons, all in OS X Aqua style. Six months in the making, these highly-detailed icons evoke the mystery, thrills and high adventure of King Kong, while at the same time being fairly useful around your desktop! Dave has also created two new custom Kong desktop pictures, available at his personal site, Pixelhuset. There’s something for everybody, so what are you waiting for?
