Breaking the Chains of Server Love

December 17, 2004

By Webmaster

You may recall that updates to The Iconfactory were temporarily frozen last month due to some server maintenance we were doing. Well, for all those geeks out there, we’re proud to announce just what was going on… we moved our website, email and database servers from hosting at Datareturn in Houston TX, to the loving arms of our friends at Panic in Portland OR. This strange journey is our first steps of embracing the nirvana that is Mac OS X hosting. We’ve taken the first steps into a larger world!

The Somatic Universe Just Expanded

December 14, 2004

This week’s freeware icon release is actually in two parts. Iconfactory artist, David Lanham has first gone back and re-worked his original Somatic System set. Somatic System has new folders and new toolbar icons and a few other tweaks as well, all designed to improve the use of the collection with our system icon utility, CandyBar. Second, David has created a large expansion to his set of Somatic application icons and grouped all of the previous app icons into this new set, Somatic Xtras. This latest collection features over 60 new Somatic application icons that can be used with CandyBar or just for fun. As we head into the holiday break, please enjoy these creations from The Iconfactory.

Holy water? Check. Silver tipped bullets? Check. Apple iPod? Check ??? That’s right folks, apparently a 40Gb Apple iPod and a cool set of playlists are crucial tools in the epic battle against the vampire nation. Some of the workers went to see Blade Trinity this weekend and were delighted to find that the entire film was basically one big Apple promotional tool. Gratuitous shots of cinema displays, G5s, iPods and even iTunes found there way onto the big screen and we were loving every minute of it. If you love Apple, or just a good action flick, head on over to your local theater and check it out, you’ll have a rip-rockin’ good time!

Iconfactory Updates On Hiatus

November 12, 2004

By Webmaster

Due to some extensive internal house keeping we’ll be doing, site updates for The Iconfactory are being suspended from now until December. This means there won’t be new icon releases, news item updates or additions / edits to the DeskBase until we return. Although the website won’t be updated, you can still purchase our software, download current releases and contact us with support questions. We appreciate your understanding and wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

Our thanks go out to MacUser’s editors for nominating us and we look forward to the event. Now, everyone keep their finger’s crossed! :-)

Update: xScope won in the Graphics Utilities category! Our thanks go out to ARTIS Software for their dedication and teamwork in bringing this winning application to Mac users everywhere.

Vectors To Full Power

Iconfactory worker Dave Brasgalla is largely associated with his photorealistic Aqua icons, but Dave likes to try out new stylistic directions as much as any of the workers. Vectra is one of his experiments that tries to create a simplified icon style that approximates Aqua sensibilities while mixing in a bit of vectorized “cuteness”. If you need a break from realism and want to add a dash of playfulness to your desktop, Vectra may be right for you! Download them now in the Showroom for the Mac, PC or as a cool Pixadex iContainer.
