If all goes well we will restart the assembly line over the weekend just in time to produce our latest icon set for next Tuesday’s release. Thanks for your patience while we upgrade our facilities.

The word out of WWDC this morning is that our good friends over at Panic have picked up two prestigious Apple Design Awards for their ground-breaking work on Unison. The Usenet news reader application won Runner-Up for Best Mac OS X Product as well as 1st place for Best Mac OS X Experience. While we’d like to think we contributed a teeny, tiny bit to Unison’s “Mac OS X Experience”, of course its the talented team of dedicated programmers and designers at Panic that cranks out one award winning piece of software after another. So from all of us here at The Iconfactory, well done guys!

Our latest freeware release from Iconfactory Founder, Corey Marion, proves that the factory’s assembly line never sleeps. Even though Corey’s schedule has been busy getting ready for his annual trip to WWDC, he found time to create his latest icon set – Smoothicons 10. When did he find time to pump out these super patriotic icons you might ask? Why on his flight from North Carolina to California while cruising at 30,000 feet of course! We invite you to download these fun icons in time for the 4th of July. And if you’re attending WWDC, don’t forget to stop by our booth and tell Corey thanks for his amazing pixel-pushing dedication. Enjoy!

As we head into the weekend here at the factory, we wanted to post a quick note to let everyone know to keep your eyes out for several new factory animations that will be popping up in the weeks ahead. The pixel gnomes have been working overtime to send these down the assembly line and the first few are rolling off now, so stay alert, you never know when you’ll see new stuff.

Also, David Lanham has produced a soothing desktop picture to accompany his recent Somatic System replacement set of icons. Be sure to surf on over to his site and check it out, it will give you warm, fuzzy feelings all over. Lastly, thanks to everyone who has taken the time to write with your positive comments regarding the release of the IF 200th Set. Its gratifying to know that our efforts to bring you freeware icons are so appreciated, thank you!

Still Going Strong

It was about this time eight years ago that Corey, Talos and Ged decided to create a webpage (hosted on AOL), that would serve as a place where people could come and download icons for their Macs. 199 freeware sets and over 5,700 individual icons later, we’re still here and kicking. Pretty good for a group of people that push pixels into the shapes of tiny little things. Of course, we wouldn’t be here without the hard work and dedication of all of the individuals that keep The Iconfactory up and running smoothly, as well as our loyal fans.

Four years ago we announced our 100th Set on the cusp of the release of Mac OS X. Today, we are proud to release our latest freeware collection, The IF 200th Set. This set of system replacement icons harkens back to the heady days of Mac OS 9 and the beloved “Copland” style of desktop folders and files. All of the 32×32 and 16×16 versions of this set have been tweaked by hand for maximum “Pixel-clickiness” and look great even in the modern environment of OS X. The set also includes some Iconfactory themed desktop pictures to complete your factory makeover. The IF 200th Set works great with CandyBar, our system icon replacement utility.

We sincerely hope you enjoy our 200th release and invite you to stick around for the next 100 sets. Drop us a line if you feel so inclined, and remember, we’ll keep making them, if you keep downloading!

History in the Making

If you pop over to the Warehouse, you’ll see an interesting statistic on display – 199 icon sets in inventory. Back in June of 2000, The Iconfactory released its 100th icon set and now, four years later we’ve reached another milestone. Another 100 sets of free icons have been released, and to celebrate we’re working up something special. So be sure to be here this Tuesday for the release of The Iconfactory’s 200th set. It won’t be a huge, star-studded event, but it will be our way of saying thanks for your continued support over the years. Now let’s get that champagne a chillin’!
