Louie Mantia Joins the Iconfactory

We are proud to announce that a new designer and icon artist has joined the Iconfactory – Louie Mantia. Over the years, Louie has made a name for himself in the Mac icon and iPhone development communities. His work as one of the original Tapulous team members brought such iPhone favorites as Tap Tap Revenge and Fortune to the iTunes App Store. Louie also lead the user interface design on the critically acclaimed Obama ‘08 iPhone application and has been a strong supporter of quality freeware on the Macintosh since day one.
We’re very pleased that Louie has accepted a position here in our Greensboro office helping to create the next generation of icons for visitors and corporate clients alike. We sincerely hope this year’s Iconfactory Halloween festivities contained a sufficient helping of creepy to satisfy everyone. Despite the shrieking, moaning and howling around the factory floor the workers were able to craft four spooky icon sets to help you express the spirit of the season. Somehow we were also able to sneak in a brand new family of royalty-free icons at stockicons.com. We would also like to thank everyone who sent in scary stuff to add to our special Halloween news links.
Sadly, we must now pack up the candy bowl and put away our costumes until next year. But fear not! We have important announcements and impending releases coming very soon, right after we finish pulling down the cobwebs and finishing the last of the candy.

With only four days left until the witching hour arrives, we’re pleased to throw one more treat into your bag of Halloween goodies – Son of Somatic. This playful, yet creepy set of desktop icons (the first Somatic set to be updated for Leopard) has oozed from the mind of David Lanham to haunt your Mac or PC desktop. Today’s creepy pre-Halloween icon release should incite floods of memories in those who roamed the neighborhood streets in search of candy bars and popcorn balls back in the 1970’s. These unexpectedly scary creations are based on the ridiculously cheap costumes that lined the local department store’s seasonal racks and were desired by kids everywhere.

Regular visitors know this is our very favorite time of year. There’s a chill in the air, the full moon is out and spooks and goblins haunt the land – it’s Halloween! In the days leading up to All Hallow’s Eve, we promise to deliver some of the very best Halloween themed goodies available anywhere.
First up is a brand new set of folder icons from Talos perfect for kids of all ages. ‘Nimble’ is a new system collection that Talos will be releasing in a few weeks for CandyBar. While you can’t set your entire system just yet, you can can surf over to the freeware section and download Nimble Halloween to get your desktop in a spooky mood. Vampires, zombies and invisible men all wait to take their place on your Mac or PC desktop with a searchable CandyBar iContainer thrown in for good measure.

Permanently Impressed

Our friends over at Mister Retro have come out with a fun new Photoshop filter called Permanent Press. The filter lets you simulate different kinds of offset printing processes with customizable ink settings and the results are really quite fun. Perfect for that “printed in Asia”, rustic look that could be used in t-shirt designs, retro posters and more.
