It Just Keeps Spinning!

Since the launch of Marble of Doom back on October 19th, Mac users have been faithfully logging their frustration with our shiny, spinning master. As of this writing MarbleofDoom.com has logged a total of 2 months, 2 days and a little over 11 hours of wasted time as people patiently wait to regain control of their productivity.

There seems to be conflicting reports about whether Apple’s new OS, Leopard, helps to ward off the Marble or invites it to move in with you lock, stock and barrel. Until we know for sure, there’s a fun new way to get in touch with your inner wait cursor – Marble of Doom desktop pictures!

Those of you who are gluttons for punishment can head over to MarbleofDoom.com and download the desktop pictures pack today. What better way to show the Marble how much you love it than to plaster its glossy face all over your computer desktop? Just remember we’re not responsible if you should suddenly decide to pick your Mac up and toss it out the window. Have fun!

We’re kicking November off with the long-awaited release of Twitterrific, our popular application for reading and posting to the Twitter social network. Version 3.0 of Twitterrific incorporates some of Mac users’ most commonly requested features as well as offering full compatibility with Apple’s new Leopard operating system.

Here are some of the great new things you’ll find in Twitterrific v. 3.0:

  • Direct messages and @replies are highlighted and displayed inline
  • The Dock icon displays the number of unread tweets
  • Launch URLs contained in tweets directly from the keyboard
  • Detailed explanations for Twitter errors shown inline
  • Screen names linked to user’s Twitter page
  • Plays nice with Mac OS X 10.5, Leopard
  • Much more!

Over the past few months Twitterrific has grown from a small side project to be one of the most recognizable applications in the Iconfactory’s roster of software. We are pleased to announce that starting today, development of Twitterrific is now being funded, in part, by advertisements from The Deck. The Deck reaches millions of users a month, and we are proud that Twitterrific joins such noted partners as Daring Fireball, A List Apart and Airbag Industries. Deck sponsorship means Mac users can continue to enjoy Twitterrific and all its great features, free of charge, without limitations. Those users who prefer to run Twitterrific ad-free can choose to register the program for $14.95.

Be sure to visit the Twitterrific home page to get the complete skinny on this amazing application that is taking the Macintosh Twitter community by storm. Thank you for your support.

The cobwebs have come down, the candy bowl has been stripped bare and things are now getting back to normal around the factory floor. We hope you enjoyed our annual tribute to things that go bump in the night. The workers managed to pull out all the stops and cranked out 4 creepy icon sets, 5 scary desktop pictures, dozens of holiday links and even a Marble of Doom.

Thanks go out to all those who wrote in with their feedback, link suggestions and Halloween well-wishes. We’ll be right back here next year with even more treats just for you. In the meantime, don’t go anywhere, because November is shaping up to be one heck of a month. We’ll have some very special, long awaited icon releases including Futurama Vol.5 as well as a veritable hat-trick of applications that you won’t want to miss. We’re just getting warmed up folks!

Leopard Escapes, Software Uninjured

Whether you stood in line at your local Apple store or waited patiently for the FedEx man to arrive, you’ve got your shiny new copy of Leopard in hand and are in the process of upgrading. Here’s what you can expect from our software

IconBuilder – Now that we’re no longer under NDA, we’re happy to announce that IconBuilder is able to build the new 512×512 Leopard icons. In fact, it can do so even while running on Tiger. It remains our primary tool for doing freeware and client work, so you’ll find that it’s quite at home on the new OS.

Pixadex – Work continues to bring this application up to speed on Leopard. You’ll find that the current version works OK, but can’t handle the new icon sizes. That will change in November.

Twitterrific – The current version of our wildly popular Twitter client has some minor display issues while running on Leopard. We are currently doing a private beta test on a new version and hope to open that beta to the public sometime next week.

Frenzic, xScope and iPulse – We’re not aware of any problems with these applications. If you find something that doesn’t work right, please get in contact with us. Thanks!

So there you have it—hope you’re enjoying our cool software on the big new cat!

As Halloween draws closer, we’re pleased to bring you the latest spooky creation for your computer desktop. Every child knows the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and now the classic tale from author Washington Irving comes to life in the form of a new desktop picture from Iconfactory artist Dave Brasgalla. Ichabod Crane’s fate seems sealed as the Horseman pursues his lost head across time and into the nightmares of readers both young and old. Ride over and grab this erie image for your Mac, PC or Apple iPhone before it’s too late. And whatever you do, don’t forget to duck. Happy Halloween!

Cabel Tells All (almost)

For months, people have been writing and asking if we were going to update Pixadex, the outstanding app for collecting and organizing icons from Panic and the Iconfactory. The same question comes up when CandyBar enters the conversation and the answer to both has always been a cryptic one. That is until today. Cabel Sasser has broken the cone of silence and officially put the word out that your favorite icon apps are coming to Leopard before the end of November. For the record, they will be Leopard ONLY, so if you are not planning on upgrading anytime soon to the new OS, we suggest you grab the Tiger versions of Pixadex and CandyBar while you still can.

And while Panic works diligently to whip thousands of lines of code into shape, the factory workers are slaving away on the assembly lines to make sure our visitors have plenty of cool, 512×512 Leopard icons to play with when our software hits the street. We’ve been releasing Leopard and Vista ready sets for months, but there is still a great deal of work to be done. The best part is Mac users now get to use all those extra pixels we’ve been pushing. Oh happy day!

Surf on over to Cabel’s blog to get the full skinny on just what to expect in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned for exciting developments, both at Panic and around the factory floor. We’ve got all kinds of goodies in store for you. Onward ho!
